What is a Pressure Reducing Valve?

A pressure reducing valve (PRV) is a control valve that automatically reduces high inlet pressure to a lower, stable outlet pressure. It is essential for water distribution systems to protect downstream equipment, conserve energy, and ensure safe operation under varying pressure conditions.

Working Principle

A pressure reducing valve functions by maintaining a preset downstream pressure that is lower than the inlet pressure. The W812/W832 model uses a main valve and a pilot valve system. When water enters the valve, the pilot valve regulates the pressure in the control chamber above the diaphragm. If the downstream pressure rises above the set value, the pilot valve reduces flow into the control chamber, causing the main valve to close partially. If the downstream pressure drops, the pilot valve releases pressure from the control chamber, allowing the main valve to open more. This process enables stable and accurate control of the downstream pressure in real time.
